Musical Bio for Gloria Jean

Born Gloria Jean Wieneke, and raised in a small town in Southwest Minnesota, I have always had a passion for classic country music. I was a drummer in several country-variety bands after college, but sang very little until a promoter heard me singing in a karaoke bar. He heard something in my voice that he had been looking for….the sound of Loretta Lynn.

While studying Loretta’s voice and her music, I was eager to learn more about Loretta’s life. After making a trip to Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch, in Hurricane Mills, TN, I became enthralled with the icon, her life and her family.

After entering a Talent Search at Loretta’s Ranch, I began to make friends with the staff, the locals and Loretta’s family. In 2007 and 2008, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime, to sing at the Western Town Saloon, to entertain the thousands of tourists and visitors to Loretta’s Dude Ranch. It was an experience yet to be matched.

Most of 2009 was spent in Branson, MO recording and co-producing my 2nd album, Windmills and Cornfields. That was another wonderful experience, meeting many of the Branson performers, and working with the phenomenal Jamie Haage, owner of Haage Music Studios and musician extraordinaire, to produce the CD.

In 2010, I was invited back to Loretta Lynn’s Ranch to perform during the celebration of Loretta’s 50 years in the music business. I was very honored to be there.

I try to make all of Loretta’s concerts held at the Ranch, as well as some in the upper Midwest, where I still call home. Every time I see her show, I learn something new. She is very funny and entertaining, and brutally honest about everything! I am so glad she paved the road for the rest of us women in the music business. It was a bumpy dirt road out of Butcher Holler, but I’m glad she found her way. Country music just wouldn’t be the same without her.

Today, I am fortunate to have an awesome 7-piece band called the Hot Hits Music Group. All are award-winning, top-notch musicians, and are directed by Bob Galombeck, co-owner of Houston Productions, based in Minneapolis and LasVegas. It is truly a pleasure to work with such a professional, classy group.

From casinos and county fairs to theaters and music halls, we have enjoyed entertaining thousands of fans of Loretta Lynn’s music. For 2012, we have added a new set of music from Loretta Lynn’s closest friends in the music business, including Crystal Gayle, Cissy Lynn, Kitty Wells, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, and Patsy Cline. This lends itself to the title of our show…….. Loretta Lynn and Friends, A Special Honorary Tribute. I also still keep a regular schedule of individual performances, for special events, city celebrations, and good ole honky tonks. Each show is tailored to the audience and the requests of the venue.
